Biography

The band Illusive Mind was a performing unit consisting of Terrell Froese (drums), Lyndon Froese (vocals, guitar), Todd McDougall (guitar, vocals) and Leon Tait/Nathaniel Froese covering the bass throughout 2004 and 2005. Playing shows in the Winnipeg area with material that was the album Surface Tension, which was released in November of 2005. Shortly after its release, Lyndon Froese left the project to persue other musical interests (From the Moon is a current project of his). Remaining members Terrell and Todd decided to continue the project under the same name. Throughout 2006 they wrote and recorded the song Smooth Flavour and completed the first in a series of like minded demos entitled the Vagrant Moth Demos. The band then consisted of Todd (vocals, guitar), Terrell (drums, vocals), Josh Weins (didgeridoo), Waqar Syed (djembe) and Carly Maicher (Vocals, Keys, Xylophone). During 2007 they had begun writting and performing material that would make up the Vagrant Moth Demos: The Second. Matt Austman (The Furr) had stepped in on the bass and Blake Minaker (formerly in Normal) on synth and backing vocals. It was during this period of time where the band name grew to accomodate the new born Gypsy Crew of Illusive Mind, and so it was, the Illusive Mind Gypsy Crew. Together they recorded the second Vagrant Moth Demo during July 2007. Engineered and mixed by Blake the snake Minaker. Before its release Josh left for China, Carly left the group, Dave Mitchell (Hand of Osiris) was added on djembe, Lyndon came back to help out live on keys and backing vocals and Dan Trupp (Krull) was added on bass and made his live debut for the release of the Vag 2 on March 1st 2008 at an event the Gypsy Crew plans to make an annual music festival called Winter CabinBash. Visual effects and electronic artist Jaymez has jumped on board as well. The band will be playing many shows throughout Manitoba during June and July '08 and will be touring throughout western and eastern Canada during August of '08 in support of the Vagrant Moth Demos: The Second, and has tentative plans to record the Vagrant Moth 3 this fall.
